What to Consider When Choosing A Chainsaw Sharpener?

There are certain aspects that you need to take into consideration before buying one of these devices. Here are some of the most important. There are basically two types of sharpeners. Electrical and manual. Most chainsaw sharpeners provide fairly precise control of the task you are doing.

Many options manuals even have a depth gauge that allows you to get the same sharpening in length and quality. The only disadvantage is that it can be a time-consuming task. This is where the electric versions take advantage. They offer almost the same final finish as the manuals, but they do it in less time.

Of course, the price is very important. If you only need to sharpen a chain every week or monthly, you do not necessarily need to spend hundreds of dollars on a machine that is made for heavy work. You can get an economic model instead.

The most important factor to take into account. You need to make sure that your sharpener is compatible with the blade of your saw. Not all options will work, and if you’re not sure, there are models on our list that are made to work with almost all chainsaws.

 Sharpener type

There are basically two types: electric and manual. The manuals are very accurate and provide control over the sharpening, but it is a painstaking task that takes time. The electric ones offer almost the same result in less amount of time.

One of the most important factors that are used to differentiate a quality chain from a poor one is the speed with which it can carry out the process in each of the teeth. The higher the speed, the more efficiently you will be able to complete the work for which you need your saw.

Speed is not always the most important factor of sharpening a chain, if you are using it for DIY projects, you might not worry about speed, but if you’re doing a professional job, a quick sharpening is often the best option for the money.

Durability and strength

It is important to buy an option that is durable. You need something that sharpens your chain for the following years, not a device that causes damage to the saw.

Security features

Security is always the number one priority when you are working with any type of tools. If you decide to get an electric model, make sure there are enough insurers in place to protect you from being hurt while working on it.

Also, make sure that your chain is safe, and follow these tips to protect yourself as you carry out this process. Do not forget to wear protective glasses during this task to be sure that no residue will end up in your eye. Also, do not forget to wear special shoes to keep your feet safe.

No matter where you use your machine, it always needs to be sharp. If you are planning to do a long job, then you may need to be sharp before you complete it.

There are portable variations that many of the best companies have created to make sure you can keep your unit always ready to work. If you tend to travel a lot while using your chain, you could make sure that your sharpener is mobile enough for you.

Care and maintenance

The care and maintenance of these products vary from one model to another. The process also depends on the type of chain, considering machines that run on gasoline that use oil and diesel blends could contribute to the immediate wear and damage and the chainsaw.

When it comes to the proper and proper care of these devices, the company usually provides an instructional guide so you can keep your machine running. The maintenance is mostly special for frequent users because they need to sharpen constantly, be it for residential or industrial use.

It is also important to search the internet, getting information about proper care and proper maintenance procedures. These are available in different forums and blogs, made by experienced users, as well as first-hand consumers of certain models.

When you make your purchase, it is important to rely on reliable reviews, ratings and consumer opinions. This will ensure that the products offered are genuine to make your investment worthwhile.

Hand or electric?

The difference between these two types of sharpeners is related to how often you use them. For portable units, they tend to be reserved more for occasional uses, that is, no more than once a week or month, without spending a lot of time sharpening your unit, and that is essentially light duty.

On the other hand, we have that the electric sharpeners are better for the chainsaws that are used frequently, considering that it can be a pain to be constantly doing this process by hand with a portable unit.

Having an electrical device, on the other hand, can make it much easier for you, as well as keeping you away from damage, because doing this process manually could actually wear down your energy levels. When you’re tired, the last thing you want to do is put yourself at risk of being too close to the mountains.

For bench or wall

This point is not a matter of choosing between bank or wall options, but rather on how collectively they are beneficial for sharpening teeth. This is one more point of professional use, especially for those who often use their tool often.

At the same time, having something anchored and stable to the floor can make life easier when it comes to sharpening saws, as well as allowing greater precision when sharpening in various sizes and shapes.

Advanced automatic chain system, or not?

It is often connected to the wall or table units, which have extra features that can be super useful when it comes to greater speed and precision in carving the saw in optimal conditions. Although it could be an addition, it is in your decision whether you want to make this investment or not.

Square files, round or cross cuts?

Finally, it is a matter of knowing how you would like your blades to be sharp; for example, in what form and style. There are a few different types of files, including the round ones for smoothing the tips while others maintain the edge shaving.

More, however, square options can give you more shapely leaflets for more difficult activities. And the cross-cut, they adjust more to the edge of the saw, so that they work in deep measures to make sure that the machine operates optimally.

What are the types of Chainsaw sharpeners?

When you go to make the purchase, you need to decide what type of device you prefer. There are three main types of sharpeners that you can select. Each one has its own value, but ultimately it is up to you to decide what type of tool or kit you prefer.

Some sharpeners can only be used when they are plugged into an electrical outlet. It is an effective and quick way to sharpen the chain of the tool.

But, it also tends to be less comfortable because it requires an electrical source to be able to function. With respect to the price, because the system of this unit tends to be more detailed, the most probable thing is that it will cost more to buy.

Handheld and Portable

The portable variations are an incredible option for those who want to use a more manual tool to maintain your saw machine. These devices are usually rounded so that you manually move them around each tooth.

If you are on a tight budget, then this option is going to be the cheapest type you can buy. Although they can be somewhat less expensive, they are often valued with the best options in the market. It requires a little precision to use these units properly.

Bar Mounted

These table variations are designed to secure your chainsaw so you can easily sharpen each tooth. You can adjust the angle you need to use. You do not need to be so precise with your hands with this type of device because there is typically a guide bar that is designed to help you keep it online, which makes it a more efficient tool.

How to sharpen a chainsaw chain?

Your chain can be as efficient as possible, so it’s important to sharpen it. But how exactly will you do that?

  • Choose a type of file: Basically it depends on your preferences, but for ease of use, the electric unit is preferred by most people. It is fast and delivers professional results in minutes.
  • Size of the file: Despite the type of unit you use, it is important to sandpaper your saw. Most chainsaws will work with 3/16, 5/32, or 7/32 inches.
  • Find the connection: The connection is simply a place that does not contain any teeth, and is technically the beginning of your chain. If you can not find it, you can start anywhere, but make it easy to dial when you start.
  • Firmness and even movements: Turn the file to the angle of the chain, and apply pressure. It needs to be firm to produce a professional and uniform result throughout the machine.
  • Rinse and repeat: You can sharpen your chain regularly or after each heavy work.

How do you know when it’s time to sharpen your chainsaw chain?

A faint edge creates heavy dirt. The edge of the chain will make long pieces of wood. When your chain throws the residue and you find that you have to apply more force to push the saw to cut, then it’s time to sharpen.

But, instead of waiting for this to happen, it is advisable to do maintenance every time you fill your tank with gas. Remember, it is suggested two or three axes with the rounded file to ensure that you are always cutting with a good edge. If you see a heavy residue coming from your machine, you have waited a long time.

What is the best method to sharpen a chainsaw?

The maintenance of a chain saw is vital if one’s desire is to have it in operational order for each job. With specific tools, you will sharpen the teeth of the chainsaw after each use.

There are different ways to sharpen a chainsaw chain. You can do it manually or through a powered system, there are also portable devices that you can power by connecting them to your vehicle, others work with batteries and others stick to the wall. Powered sharpeners can be as simple as a portable tool with a cylindrical sharpening stone and as elaborate as a bench-mounted system.

All you need are a few simple tools, a few minutes to use them, the patience to check the blade and the teeth of the chainsaw and the instructions on how to sharpen. You will decide if you are more comfortable with an electrical device or its manual torque.

What is its importance, and how to stay safe while sharpening a chainsaw?

Considering that a chainsaw is a tool that costs a good amount of euros, it is important to carry out proper and proper maintenance to avoid the constant wear of your saw. Once the edge is put tenuous, there will be problems working because it will not have the same cutting ability, and probably put you at risk, because the pieces of waste will be much larger and more dangerous.

Always make sure to keep your equipment sharp, and it will make matters much easier for you. However, this process must have some important security considerations to avoid any kind of misfortune. Here we show you:

  • Keep the tool’s cutting edge away from the body and from anyone else nearby
  • Sharpen the ends of the chain away from the body, in case there has to be a quick reaction.
  • If you use an electric unit, disconnect it after each use, so that the fingers do not get stuck inside the sharpener. If you use manual sandpaper, keep it safe so that you eliminate the possibility that it could be used by a child inappropriately.

Depending on how frequently you use your chainsaw, you may need to sharpen the chain more or less frequently – so choose a chainsaw sharpener that fits your needed combination of price point and speed of sharpening. Our review of the five best chainsaw chain sharpener makes it easy for you to choose the sharpener that is right for you and provides you with the information you need to make an informed buying decision.

Best Demolition Hammer for Tile Removal

With the demolition hammer, the tearing of walls and floors is much faster from the Hand. In our top list, the best demolition hammer for tile removal reviews and guides on performance, stroke rate, cable length, etc.

What is a demolition hammer?

A demolition hammer is a tool that is suitable for breaking up hard materials such as asphalt or concrete. A demolition hammer is often referred to as a chisel hammer or stun hammer. A further place of work is construction sites where small streets are opened.

The demolition hammer is operated either with electricity or with compressed air. The device itself has one tool holder, where hex tools are used. In this device can be used either flat chisel or a chisel.

What types of demolition hammer do you need?

There are several variants. The devices are available from a weight of 12 to 15 kg and can be used for a variety of demolition work. The demolition hammer can also be used for horizontal work. First, a distinction is made between the type of drive, which can be electricity or compressed air. In addition, there are different systems that we will take a closer look at.

Hydraulic hammer

The hydraulic hammer is always used when the ground is very hard. Concrete or hard rock is crushed with the hydraulic hammer in a short time . Especially in quarries are hydraulic hammers, which can make the demolition work quickly and easily.

There are for the handyman smaller models, which the demolition of foundations, buildings or masonry suitable. Homeowners can, for example, work the concrete path in the garden with a hydraulic hammer that can be quickly picked up by the device.
It makes sense to attach the hydraulic hammer to another carrier device. In the quarry, you can see more and more that the demolition hammer was attached to an excavator to ensure easy transport and efficient work.

Rotary Hammer

Another form of demolition hammer is the hammer drill. It is for drilling of holes used which in concrete or stone must be introduced. For insertion of explosive devices, which is to destroy a building is usually with a hammer drill the hole drilled into which the later explosive device can be inserted.
The beating mechanism wears down the material to be processed. As a rule, the rotary hammer also has a rotating movement, with the executed strokes more precise to use are brought.

Demolition hammer with compressed air

A demolition hammer operated with compressed air has much more power than a demolition hammer that works with electricity. He finds his field of application for breaking, tearing or chiseling of building structures, which consist of hard rock or concrete.
Even asphalt pavements or rocks can be worked with the demolition hammer. A compressed air breaker is also often called a force from the air jackhammer. He gets which is generated by a compressor, which must be connected separately to the device.
The compressed air ensures the drive. The force is indicated as joule in these devices. The advantage is that these models have a simple design and also a lower dead weight, whereby he works for different jobs.

Electric Demolition hammer

A demolition hammer, which is thus electrically operated with electricity, can wear down and break up the material to be processed by means of rotating and beating motions. The high weight also exerts a strong pressure on the material, which makes it easier to break through the material.
Its design is smaller, so this model is usually very popular with home improvement. Even small wall breakthroughs or removal can be mastered.

Useful accessories of a demolition hammer

Once you work with a demolition hammer, the use of personal protective equipment makes sense. Since the demolition hammer usually applies a volume of more than 85 decibels, hearing damage can be caused during use.

Therefore, hearing protection is an important accessory that should be included in the purchase. Be sure you purchase hearing protection that this for the performance of the device is sufficient.

Mostly the volume will be indicated on the packaging of the demolition hammer. You can compare this decibel value with the value of the hearing protection.

In addition to hearing protection, the use of gloves makes sense. You should consider when choosing the gloves make sure that vibrations and shocks are insulated. The demolition hammer releases vibrations and shocks due to the impact movement.

The manufacturers try this as far as possible to prevent it by the construction. However, it can not be completely ruled out. Therefore, gloves are the extra shielding core, equally beneficial. Another factor is that the gloves protect against flying rocks, which are loosened when working with the demolition hammer.

For this reason, it is recommended to wear protective goggles, which protects the eyes. When battering from rocks or concrete, there is a dusting, the one burning in the eyes can cause. Depending on where the site of the demolition hammer. A breathing mask can also be helpful in order not to breathe the dust and dirt.

What should look when buying a demolition hammer?

In a demolition hammer, the chisel is an accessory without which the device cannot perform its work. If you use an inferior tool, the chisel may break or not work well enough into the masonry. In addition, it may happen that the chisel becomes dull faster due to the material.

Use a high-quality chisel, these can be later ironwork back to frontman bring. Therefore, you should, when buying too on a high quality. Pay attention to the chisel, which is ultimately responsible for the quality of the demolition work.

The chisel must of course also with the device compatible with his, so that optimum cooperation of the two components is achieved. Furthermore, it is also important that a high-quality device is purchased.

The demolition hammer is available in different thicknesses, which can be seen as a number of joules either on the device itself or on a leaflet. In addition, it is important to pay attention to other factors.

So before you buy a demolition hammer, it is essential that you also look at the accessories you will work within the future. But also in relation to the device itself, some considerations are needed.

The most important question can be seen in what the demolition hammer should be used for. Use the demolition hammer of frequently or want to buy it only for a job – perhaps that’s rent of the demolition hammer more appropriate?

Whether you rent or buy a demolition hammer should be discussed in more detail later. Before the demolition hammer is bought, you should compare the data and facts exactly. For in a demolition hammer the strength is an elementary component.

The weight plays an as important role. Not only is the weight for the demolition work in the foreground, but it also comes here to an effort that needs to be mastered.

If the device is too heavy, you can only work with it for a few minutes. Is the model too light, it may be that you can not perform the desired work with it? Furthermore, you should set yourself a limit in terms of the price.

There are cheap, the middle class and also more expensive devices. Therefore, set a limit so that the purchase moves within the available budget. The construction should be double-walled. Because of the enormous load, solid construction is absolutely necessary, so that the device does not already show cracks or damage after a single use.

In addition, strokes should not be transmitted to the human body, which a double-walled housing attempts to prevent. In addition, the volume is elemental. Make sure that the volume level of 110 decibels does not exceed.

At this volume, the use of hearing protection enormously important, so that you should also purchase the right accessories at the time of purchase. The device itself requires accessories such as grease and spare carbon.

Be sure to compare the prices, as these accessories are parts that need to be constantly rebuilt within the available budget. Best Metal Chop Saw Buying Guide

Often the research is about a purchase. To avoid a bad buy, below you will find the most important information you should consider when buying the best metal chop saw. However, this also depends on the particular project and the individual needs.

What performance does a good chop saw need?

Performance is a significant feature of a chop saw. If the performance is too low, there is the risk that the engine speed drops significantly with harder and stronger materials. As a rule, the cutting edge quality suffers from this.

The idling speed – rpm

The idling speed gives you the information about how many revolutions per minute the saw blade completes. The increased speed increases the precision of the cutting edge. High speed is a prerequisite for accurate work. At least 3000 rpm should create your future chop saw in the test.

The train chop saw

A pull chop saw or pull chop and miter saw has a pull function. This allows you to cut very wide workpieces. By the movement of the saw head including saw blade from front to back, the implementation takes place.

With a traditional chop saw, maximum cutting widths of about 120 mm are usual, this feature achieves cutting widths of 300 mm or more, depending on the model of the saw.

Rotating sawing plate

For a horizontal miter cut a rotating plate of the saw is required. In most cases, -45 ° to + 45 ° is achieved. Professional devices have an undercut function. This allows the angle to be adjusted beyond 45 °. So undercuts are realized. For beginners and advanced users, this feature is not important, professionals cannot do without it.

Tile-able saw head

The saw head should also be adjustable in angle. This also allows you to create vertical angle cuts. Often, in the case of entry-level models, classic angles from 0 ° to 45 ° are common, covering only one direction. Thanks to their flexibility, professional implements ensure that the saw blade swivels to the left and right. No rarity here is an undercut function.

Stop rail and tension device

In a chop saw, stop rail and tension device are of great importance. In particular, the stop rail should have very accurate processing, since it is required for all machined workpieces. If the precision is 100% accurate, you have a real chance of getting a straight cut.

Adjustment screws for adjusting the saw

One very important feature is adjusting screws. These screws provide precise adjustment of the base position of the saw and its angles. Adjustment screws allow a filigree adjustment. Take a little time, because all subsequent cuts are measured by this quality.

A precise adjustment of the 0 ° of all angles is not always given in the factory and correction takes place by the adjusting screws. If the saw has a laser to mark the cutting lines, it should be adjustable. In most cases this is possible.

Extendable saw table

If you cut very long workpieces with the chop saw, the problem often arises that eg. B. Skirting at the beginning or end are in the air and sag. A precise application to the top rail is almost impossible.

A good thing is an extendable table for sawing. As an alternative, there are also pads on each side and they are mostly inserted at the side of the table. This creates an extended table for sawing. For professional work, a special recommend base for the chop saw.

The spindle lock

For a simple, quick and safe replacement of the saw blades, the chop saw should have a spindle lock. By pressing a button, you can easily change and secure the shaft or spindle and thus the saw blade.

Fang sack for chips and suction device

The task of a catching bag for chips is to collect the sawdust that accumulates so that you always have a clear view of the workpiece and the blank. Because of the passive solution, the function of these chip collecting bags is limited in practice. An attached adapter ensures connection to an active external extraction system. Often an industrial vacuum cleaner is already a great help. Professional tools completely forego the catch bag.

The price-performance ratio

Ultimately, the price-performance ratio should be right. A hobby handyman or people who rarely use this saw, should not spend a few hundred euros for the purchase of a chop saw.

Maximum width and depth of the cut

By specifying the maximum width of the cut, you can see how wide a piece can be to cut it. If the saw blade is not inclined, you reach the greatest width of the cut at 90 °. It is directly related to the diameter of the saw blade.

Miter cutting reduces the maximum width of the cut. Most chop saws can be rotated up to an angle of 45 °. Here it is rational to consider before the purchase also the maximum width of the cut of 45 °.

The depth or height of the cut indicates the highest value of depth or height that a workpiece may possess to be completely separated. The maximum depth of cut is again dependent on the diameter of the saw blade.

Noble saw blade

An additional very important topic is the saw blade. For an application, carbide saw blade (HM) should come. You should not save on your budget here either. The saw blade creates the cut. Keep in mind: The more teeth the saw blade has, the more accurate the blanks will be and the tears will be less. Preferably buy a slightly cheaper saw and invest in noble saw blades.

Frequently Asked Questions

To give you an overview, key questions on the chop saw or metal chop saws are answered below so that you can make your purchase decision easier.

What is a chop saw?

A chop saw is used wherever precision and accuracy are required. During woodworking, the practical device offers different adjustment possibilities and thus miter and saw cuts are made at the right angle.

The term ” caps ” comes from the woodworking sector, which means cutting and cutting wood. Unlike other saws, the chop saw is very precise and allows suitable cuts. The individual steps at work are greatly facilitated by the use of a chop saw and the workflow is improved.

What is an undercut function for chop saws?

An undercut can certainly be advantageous if, for example, two plates should just be connected to each other. As a result, almost no transition is visually recognizable. As an example, the first plate is cut at a right angle. The cutting of the second plate takes place at an angle of 89 °.

The air wedge thus formed only ensures an upper collision of the plates. As a rule, glue is used for filling the air wedge. The end result is an almost seamless push of the two plates. Perfect for all special, clean and fine work.

Which chop saw for laminate use?

A classic chop saw for cutting laminate is futile because of the laminate width. You should immediately use a pull miter saw. In particular, for wider boards, workpieces and laminate chop saws with traction are particularly useful.

To prevent the laminate from fraying, you need to use a powerful pull miter saw with a powerful motor and a good saw blade. Laminate requires a minimum output of 1,100 watts or higher.

Thus the sensitive laminate does not crack, one should filigree blade made of hard metal and many teeth and negative cutting angles are used. As a result, the saw blade slides cleanly and without fraying through the laminate.

How do you change the saw blade of a chop saw?

For the replacement of a saw blade, there are various possibilities. You can make the change manually with the appropriate tool or automatically with professional equipment and automatic trimming systems.

The saw blade can often be replaced manually with the spindle lock on smaller models. To change the blade, turn the appropriate tool in the required direction to remove the nut and saw blade from the shaft.

The new saw blade must be inserted in the cutting direction. The teeth of the saw blade point in the direction of rotation. Please read the operating instructions of the chop saw and take the necessary safety instructions into account.

How is the angle of the chop saw set?

A precise angular adjustment is required to perform miter cuts on. It only takes a few steps to do this. By operating the safety lever, the saw head is brought into the individual inclination. For the right angle adjustment is a graduated scale available, which is located on the machine table.

How to build a fence for the saw?

The saw table is often already pre-drilled holes in which you can clamp attacks. If your machine does not have the required holes, a little research on the internet is necessary. The World Wide Web has articles and instructional videos on this topic. In small steps, it explains how you can create this accessory individually for your miter saw.

In this chop saw reviews, you have got the know-how to make a great chop saw purchase for your metal cutting. The buyer’s guide helped you to get the required background on this tool. Then you also had an introduction to the main features for selecting your saw. Remember, the highest technologically advanced or costliest products in the market, are not for sure the best ones out there. Performance, strength, and versatility should be your primary guide factors. And hopefully, this will pave your way to the best metal chop saw.

How to Choose A Chop Saw: Chop Saw Buying Guide

how to choose a chop saw

A chop saw is often called a miter saw and is suitable for sawing wood, plastic, and even metal. In the professional area, this device is mainly needed by carpenters and floor layers, but also more and more home improvement interested in this particular saw. The chop saw is suitable for making miter cuts exactly as well as for cutting firewood.

Basically, you can compare the chop saw with a classic table saw, the functions are very similar, even the chop saw works with a saw blade, which rotates. Mostly this saw is used for trimming and cutting slats, boards, moldings, planks, and laminate.

The cuts are very precise, without the material ripping out great. Thanks to the various possibilities of individually adjusting the chop saw, it can be used for many different types of home and outdoor work.

How to Use A Chop Saw

Cross-cut saws are in principle quite simple in their operation and yet cover a whole range of applications. A distinction is made between two different variants, namely the classic models and those with a function. The structure is almost identical in both, some chop saws are also equipped with additional features. The drive is made on the chop saw with the help of a motor, which ensures the rotation of the saw blade.

The saw blade is fixed to the saw head, you can move it upwards or downwards thanks to a joint, in some models you can still rotate the joint, so the angle can be adjusted individually, which is necessary for the execution of bevel and miter cuts, where The angle can usually be set at least between -45 and +45 degrees.

If the angle of the professional equipment can be set even higher, undercuts are also possible. Even more, options are offered by a model with a pull function, because then you can push the saw head forward or backward, so wider cuts are feasible. The motor drives the saw blade either by means of two gears or a drive belt.

To saw through the workpiece, you pass the saw head of the device from top to bottom. On the turntable, many cross-cut saws and fixations are attached so that the user has his hands free and the workpiece can not slip.

Types of Chop Saws

On the market you will find a large selection of cross-cut saws, they are distinguished by their functions and possible uses. A classic chop saw is primarily suitable for cutting workpieces made of wood, plastic or soft metal, such as aluminum. In general, you can cut vertically and horizontally with such a tool, which is why the saw table is rotatable and the saw head can be adjusted in inclination.

In a conventional chop saw you lower the saw head so that you can saw through the workpiece at the desired location. Since the size of the saw blade determines the maximum width of the respective workpiece, these simple models can be used above all to machine narrow workpieces made of wood or plastic.

The functions of the chop saw with traction function are similar to those of the classic chop saw, it is just equipped with this additional function. This is particularly convenient because it allows moving the saw head both forward and backward so that even wider workpieces can be easily edited. This allows, for example, the cutting of laminate or parquet planks.

Another name for chop saw is also miter saw, which is actually correct because you can implement various mitered cuts with it. When talking about a miter saw, it can be a simple hand-operated saw, but it can also be an electric model. With a miter saw, the saw head, including the saw blade, can not normally be adjusted so that you are less flexible when working.

With a standard chop saw you can usually also edit aluminum because it is a very soft metal. In addition, there are also special metal chop saws *, which can come up with more power because they have a stronger engine. This can bring workpieces made of any kind of metal to the desired length.

Some models are equipped with a metal saw blade, while others work with a cutting disc. In principle, the second ones resemble a cut-off grinder or a flex, but they cut materials much cleaner. The last variant would be still cross-cut saws, which are operated with a rechargeable battery *. These are then particularly flexible because you do not rely on a power outlet and a cable.

Chop Saw vs Table Saw

Many DIY enthusiasts wonder if they would rather buy a table saw or a chop saw. This question can not be answered unambiguously, because it depends mainly on what you have with the tool. If it is more about the rough cutting of pieces of wood, you can get along well with a table saw. However, if you rely on precise work, maximum safety and ease of use, then you should rather tend to chop saw.

While a table saw is used to guide the workpiece into the saw blade, the saw blade of the chop saw is guided into the workpiece. The exact work is only possible with the chop saw in that you can customize the turntable and the saw head individually, in a table saw you need special accessories for it.

chop saw

How to Choose A Chop Saw

If you look around the market, you will find many good models from renowned manufacturers, so that a purchase decision is not necessarily easy. A first criterion would be the work that you want to do in the future with the chop saw, because it can be fixed on what features the model should have in any case. To ensure efficient and comfortable working, the motor power should be at least 1,000 watts.

That is, if the device is working permanently at the performance limit, this naturally also has a negative effect on its service life. Another essential point is the maximum cutting width and height because that decides what you can even work with the chop saw. With a model without a pull function, the cutting of narrow workpieces is not a problem, but if you also want to cut laminate, this could be difficult, which is why a model with a tensile function would be preferable in this case.

Also, the adjustment of the turntable is not insignificant, in the best case, you can adjust it both to the left and to the right by up to 45 degrees. Only if one can regulate the angle individually here, the conversion of different angle cuts is possible. Even better scale-able are cross-cut saws with undercut function, which should be a must for professionals. Also, a tilting of the saw head on both sides is recommended, this criterion should meet a high-quality chop saw in any case.

So that you can cut workpieces as precisely as possible, a good chop saw should have a stop rail and a clamping device. If you would like to use the device not only for capping bars, a pull function is essential. Sometimes you have to work on longer workpieces, so that makes an extendable saw table pays, alternatively, a side extension could be present.

The change of the saw blade can be annoying under certain circumstances, so you wanted to put emphasis on a spindle lock. In order not to pollute the work area too much, one might also think of a dust extraction device.

How to Choose a Chop Saw Blades

The size of the saw blade is important in the chop saw because it determines how deep and wide a cut can be at most. Many chop saws therefore only allow a maximum cutting depth of around 25 millimeters because no larger saw blade can be used. Of course, you can then use such a model only for certain purposes.

If you expect deeper and wider cuts, then you must necessarily rely on a chop saw with traction function. But it is not only the saw blade that determines the depth of cut, but also the possibilities of adjusting the angle individually. Each chop saw is already delivered with a saw blade, this is usually a universal saw blade made of carbide. However, you can also equip the device with a different saw blade at any time, distinguishing between two different categories.

The so-called CV saw blades are the cheaper option, but you can not expect too high quality and durability. However, they are sufficient if you only want to do rough work, such as cutting firewood. In addition, there are the so-called carbide saw blades, which are made of hard metal, so that they are much more robust and can convince with a longer life. But it’s not just the material that matters, it’s the teeth too.

A saw blade with coarse teeth lends itself to coarse splitting, while finer work requires one with small teeth so that the material does not tear out. Another criterion for the selection of the saw blade is the rake angle. If you want to work wood, you need a saw blade, because, with this, the teeth are directed forward, so that they dig into the material without much effort. On a special metal saw blade, however, the teeth dig into the metal at a shallow angle.

So hopefully, after going through the steps mentioned here you’ll know how to choose a chop saw effectively and efficiently.

Best Corded Drills for Electricians – Buying Guide

After analyzing the top 5 best corded drills 2019, it’s time to make a choice, right? Here is a simple drill buying guide for you, so that you can make your decision wisely. There are several important features of drill machines to consider before buying one. I’ve listed them and analyzed them for you.

Motor Power:

The general rule about motor power is “the bigger the better”, which is pretty obvious. Most drills available in the market have sufficient motor power to do the light to heavy household applications. You should go for a power range from 5.0 amp to 10.0 amp. You should also keep in mind that the motors using higher current tend to last longer.

Drill Speed:

The speed of the drill is one of the most important features. You have to use a different speed depending on the applications. The equation is quite simple – if you’re dealing with wood, you’ll need comparatively less speed than the case of steel. Just remember that 700-100 RPM is sufficient for household applications. And for industrial heavy applications, you’ll need higher speed.

Chuck Size:

If you’ve no idea what a chuck is – it is the tool that holds the bit of the drill. Simply put, without a strong chuck, the bit might slip.No one wants that. Now, there are two types of chuck – keyless and keyed chuck. Although keyless chuck is more convenient, keyed chuck is the tool you should look for in case of tough applications.

Variable Speed Control:

If you want to do your drilling work more precisely, this is the feature you need. As the name of the feature says, using this feature you’ll be able to use your drill at variable speeds depending on the applications you’re dealing with. Some of the drills in the market have the lock-on feature with this. Whether you need a lock-on feature or not mainly depends on how you feel comfortable to drill.

Hammer Setting:

This is an essential feature for those who want to use their drill machines for tough applications like drilling concretes or stones. It is measured as Blows Per Minute or in short BPM. A common mistake many drill users make is that they always leave this function on. You should not use hammer function while dealing with wood or any metal surface.

Reverse Switch:

Now, this feature is basically for those who want to use their corded drill with driver set. This reverse function allows you to remove screws very easily. However, you should keep in mind that corded drills are not designed to serve the purpose of a screwdriver or impact driver.

Weight and Size:

To be frank, the necessity of heavyweight or lightweight drills solely depends on the users. And in some cases, the size of your drill machine becomes a big issue. For example, a comparatively bigger size might not allow you to use the machine in tight spaces. These are some of the most important features that you need to consider before buying a drill machine. If you want to make a wise choice don’t even dare to overlook the importance of any of these features.

Frequently Asked Questions

Cordless vs corded drill, which one should I choose?

This is the most common question that pops up in people’s mind when it comes to buying a drill machine. Although both categories have their pros and cons, you should go for a corded drill. The benefits of a cordless drill can use it when there is no power and you aren’t stuck with the socket for power supply. And if you go through the list of demerits, you would probably agree with my stance.

Cordless drill users might run out of battery power any time during their work, the large battery makes the drill heavier and bigger in size, and last but not the least you won’t be able to enjoy as much power as the corded drill. So, I would definitely go for a corded drill if I were in such a dilemma.

What are drill bits?

A drill bit is a tool that cuts through the wooden, metal or concrete surface you are working on. In other words, drill bits are attached to the drill on the front that rotates to make the holes. There are different types of bits to perform different applications.

Can regular drill be used for concrete applications?

Ideally, hammer drills should be used to perform concrete applications. However, if your regular drill is powerful enough, you can use that for concrete applications. But don’t forget to attach the right drill bit to the chuck. In case you don’t know which bit is suitable for concrete applications, masonry bit is the tool you need to perform your job on concrete surface precisely.

That’s all from my side. By now you probably have a quite clear idea that the drills described in this article are the bests of corded drills available in the market. Still, you might be waiting for my opinion – which one among these five is the best one? Before that, you should clearly understand that my opinion might not be the most suitable decision for you.

The nature of the applications you’re dealing with will make the choice. In my opinion, the DEWALT DWD112 is the best corded drills 2019. Although some users might find it a bit costly, I assure you that its performance won’t let you down.
